About the opportunities:

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the lead agency for bush fire management and mitigation in NSW. Fighting fires and protecting the community from emergencies is what we do!

We are looking for motivated and community minded individuals who have a passion for emergency services and want to make a difference. From assisting with the AIDER Program to hazard reduction, Cultural Burns and firefighting support, you’ll have the opportunity to support front line operational work on a number of exciting and rewarding activities. As part of our Mitigation Crews, you will be helping protect your community by reducing the risk of fires occurring.

We value the expertise and knowledge of Country that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can bring to the Service. RFS recently formalised our commitment to Reconciliation with the launch of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. To support progression of the action items within the plan, we have engaged a RAP Working Group comprised of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Members and Non-Indigenous members, from all areas, roles and responsibilities across the Service. The aim is to promote Reconciliation within our sphere of influence, strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and stakeholders, progress RAP projects and initiatives and improve Cultural capability in our service delivery.

Members have access to the Mitigation Aboriginal Support Network (ASN) and a dedicated Aboriginal Programs Coordinator will provide support during the recruitment process.
